Urban Survival – Survival Tactics for the Urban Jungle

You read news about violence; you talk about it and then forget it. Since nothing has happened to you, you fail to prepare yourself by not doing anything about it.

Violence is prevalent in our society. No matter what you do, where you are, sooner or later you’d have to encounter violence and all the possible consequences that can come along with it.

If you don’t prepare yourself for the inevitable, you too might become news one day. “It won’t happen to me” mindset won’t serve you or the people you care about. Don’t deny the reality.

There comes a time in every man’s life when he needs to defend himself from the threat of death or grave bodily harm.

Streets can be dangerous. Streets are no better than jungle. There are all kinds of predators out there and chances are you might run into some danger in your life from petty punks to serious life threats.

What if a pack of hyenas surround you? They won’t hesitate to kill you. You don’t want to become their food?

The forest did not tolerate frailty of body or mind. Show your weakness, and it would consume you without hesitation.”

Tahir Shah, House of the Tiger King

Ever seen a lion hunting? In nature, a predator seeks out the weak, the sick and the meek.

Violence is a very real threat to anyone who looks like an easy target. If your body language doesn’t reflect confidence, strength and the willpower of a fighter, you are an easy prey.

Ooze confidence like you own the world.

Confidence is everything. Don’t look like an easy prey. Always carry yourself with an aura of strength. Be vigilant and take note of your surroundings. Always observe people’s body language from a distance and try sensing their intent.

Survival Tactics:

  • Get strong

  • Learn a fighting skill

  • Always carry a weapon

Get strong, don’t be small

The Law of the Jungle states – Survival of the strongest/ survival of the fittest / kill or be killed.

Do whatever it takes to get faster, stronger and smarter. In nature, predators don’t select prey that is strong, bold and superior.

Keep your head on a swivel. Toughen up. Living in this world is a constant war, get strong and learn the combat skills. Getting strong will only serve you or anyone else you care about.

The best self-defense for men is muscles.  When you toughen up, you make yourself less attractive as a potential prey. Lifting weights is not a choice, it’s your only option.

Need more reasons to lift weights? Read-Why you should lift.

Get that gym membership, get under the bar, lift heavy, eat a lot, and get big. You’ll find that most men have no interest in messing around with you.

The choice is yours whether you want to be the prey or the predator.

Learn a fighting skill

Life is simple. If you want peace, prepare for war.

Learning a fighting skill is next on my bucket list. In the coming years, I plan to become 190lbs of lethal weapon.

BJJ, Muay Thai, Krava Maga, MMA, Boxing, Taekwondo and more. There are a ton of different fighting styles that you could learn.

It’s always better to have the knowledge and skill and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Learning a fighting skill will not only increase your confidence ten folds. You will get more outspoken, calm, relaxed and secure no matter how bad it gets.

Women and men will feel your change in body language. And you’ll be treated far better in your day to day interactions. Chicks dig fighters. Having razor sharp instincts, eye of an eagle and fierceness of a wolf is more than enough to make them want you and ward off most potential threats.

I have got into street fights. I have had many black eyes and I have made many people bleed.

There was this one time when my friend and I were surrounded by fifteen punks with amateur weapons to boot; they were all drunk and even threw red pepper in my eyes, you can guess how prepared they were.

Trouble can and will find you, even when you’re not looking for it.

This is how I look like today. I am not that big, but I am faster, quicker and agile than most men. On any given day I can bench press 225lbs. With a height of 6’2”, I am better off than 99.99% of men on this planet.

I don’t know any specific fighting skill yet but I do know how to throw a killer punch. Delivering a punch is a skill. It’s a full body movement, you generate force from the ground through your feet; it involves your legs, hips, upper body, shoulder, arms, hands, and head.

If you don’t know how to punch the right way, there’s a strong chance that you might break your wrist or get a minor facture.

PS – Life gets easy when you are strong and know at worst – you can punch your way out of any bad situation.

Don’t know how to fight?

If an attack seems imminent, don’t panic or you might freeze. Stay calm and get ready to defend yourself. Balance your body in the classic boxer stance; you can react quicker.

The guy who strikes first generally is the one who ends it.

If you must fight, proceed with extreme violence, close the distance between you and your assailant and deliver blows on his face. Do not stop until your attacker is disabled.

Eyes, nose and ears are among the most sensitive organs of the human body; hitting them will produce a numbing sensation and possibly make them unconscious.

Pro Tip – A well-placed punch or a solid strike to the groin with your knee can drop any man to the ground in no time.

Remember-Finish the fight and leave the place. The person might come back with a weapon or with friends.

Stand your ground. Do whatever you must to defend yourself and survive. Self-defense is legal. Your lawyer can take care of the rest.

Always carry a weapon

What does the survival guide teach you? The first thing to do, when you get lost in the jungle is to find a weapon; a stick and few stones.

Having a weapon is visually more intimidating and will create that dominance when hyenas surround you. And even if someone attacks you, you stand a good chance of defending yourself.

You never know who might attack you on the streets. Always carry a weapon with you or learn to use nearby things as a weapon like beer bottles, belt buckles, fork, pen, chairs etc.

Pro Tip – Keep something in your car just for the rare situation where you might need to protect yourself from an immediate threat. Better be safe than sorry. Watch this video – They hit the wrong car

I now keep a [easyazon_link identifier=”B004I39FYM” locale=”US” tag=”lifest89-20″]baseball bat[/easyazon_link] in my car solely as a means of self-defense in an extremely exceptional circumstance. A baseball bat is more intimidating, it scares the shit out of people. With a baseball bat in hand, you look like someone who is used to breaking bones, a professional badass, someone who doesn’t take shit. A piece of advice; keep a ball along with it to avoid suspicion.

One rule to rule them all – Avoid a fight if possible

“To win without fighting is best.” – Sun Tzu

I have spent a sleepless night in hospital, got a few stitches, a swollen face that even I couldn’t recognize myself for a couple of days.

And if you ask me, I’d say it’s wise to avoid fights in all instances. You can simply apologize for an incident or say that you’re not looking for any trouble. A broken ego is better than a broken jaw.

If you get into a verbal abuse, make eye contact don’t shift your gaze down or look around. Looking away is an invitation and signals of a prey.

Never challenge a potential attacker; it will only increase the tension. A good strategy is to look for an escape route, don’t fight. But if you must, smash your assailant, make him unconscious and get the hell out.

If you challenge them they will attack you. Just let them know that you’re not scared, they might not attack you.

Good luck, and have a nice day.
