Be content with what you have, rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.

— Lao Tzu

The term abundance means having a sufficiently large quantity of something. Usually, we think of ownership, possessions, and wealth when we hear the word.

For people with a deeper understanding of what really matters in life, abundance is seeing and seeking out richness all around you each day in life.

An abundant life doesn’t require a lot of stuff to make you happy. Commercials, celebrity and public figures, and the shopping mall all try to make us think things are what make us who we are to the outside world.

Images of success in the media show what you wear, what you own, and where you live as the defining features of success and happiness. The truth is, we are all incredibly wealthy already in what we own.

Looking for the way the rest of the world lives is a big eye opener. About 15% of the world’s population lives without access to clean, safe water. These 1.1 billion people have stresses you can’t imagine in basic survival.

The point isn’t to make you feel guilty for the life you have, but knowing about it gives you a perspective you may have lacked. When you start living an abundant life, you appreciate the things you have, even if you took them for granted in the past.

This mindset shift is a powerful way to change your outlook on life. You’ll grow away from a position of gloomy scarcity, where you always feel behind or less than those around you and always want more. Instead, you’ll stop comparing yourself to others and start seeing what you value already there in your life.

There will always be someone with less than you have. There will also always be someone with more. Start valuing the family in your life, the new opportunities you take each day, the friends you love, and your positive outlook on life.

Abundance Mindset

What do you do when you see a broken egg in the tray? You don’t cry over that motherfu***r, do you? You just pick another.

Take that approach to life. There’s always a next ‘better’ business idea, a ‘better’ job, and a ‘perfect’ ten ready to be swept away from the ground.

Your next move is to stop fear in its footsteps

You have to stop a scarcity mindset of losing out. There will be other opportunities for jobs if you don’t get selected, there are other fish in the sea when a date doesn’t work out. In fact, there’s a whole world outside you to experience and enjoy if you open yourself up to opportunity. Stop hyper-focusing on being in control and hoarding possessions, people, and experiences.

Change your mindset to really see what life has to offer and you’ll stop worrying and stressing about what’s out of your control.

You have to let go of everything and embrace it at the same time

You should seek out enjoyments, new friendships, and enjoy your possessions. But don’t be so attached you can’t let them go. There will always be another party time with friends, and another person to date if that girl never calls back.

Take life as it comes, full of possibilities that will present themselves each day. When you’re able to embrace this approach, you’ll see others around you want to be with you. You’ll be valued and appreciated more because you are confident in your options and happy with what you have in life.

Remember the future will always hold new Opportunities.

It’s all about the mindset. Change your mindset, change your life.
